Why Your Press-Ons Aren't Lasting — And How to Fix It

Because your nails should be loyal… even if your ex wasn’t.

If your press-ons are popping off faster than your patience, don’t worry — it’s not you, babes. It’s your prep, your products, or your environment.
And we’re about to fix all of that.

As a luxury press-on studio, The Claw Room™ builds sets meant to last 10–14+ days, survive bartending shifts, wild nights out, hair washes, holiday chaos — you name it. When they’re applied correctly, they ARE that girl.

Here’s why yours might not be staying on…
and exactly how to make them cling tighter than a toxic situationship.

1. You’re Skipping Prep (Don’t do that, bestie.)

Prep is 80% of your wear time.
If you slap nails on with natural oils, cuticle skin, or debris on your nail plate… GIRL they’re gonna jump ship.

How to Fix It:

  • Do NOT wash your hands first (water expands the nail plate → shrinkage → lifting)

  • Push back cuticles

  • Lightly buff the shine off the nail

  • Remove ALL dust

  • Wipe with 90%+ alcohol

  • Then use a REAL dehydrator — not just alcohol

Why dehydrator > alcohol:

Alcohol only cleans the surface.
A dehydrator actually balances the pH and temporarily dries the keratin layer so glue can bond HARD.

My fave (and absolute holy grail):

✨ Apres PH Bonder — $9.99
Perfect adhesion. No lifting. Zero excuses.

Other great options:

  • Young Nails Protein Bond

  • The Gel Bottle Nail Prep

  • Beetles Nail Dehydrator Duo

A good dehydrator is the difference between
“2 days” and “2+ WEEKS.”

2. Wrong Size = Wrong Vibe

If a nail is too big or too small, it WILL lift.
Sizing is EVERYTHING.

How to Fix It:

  • Fit the nail sidewall to sidewall

  • If between sizes?
SIZE UP and gently file the sides to match your natural shape
(never size down — that causes pressure and lifting)

  • File straight out, never down (filing down creates gaps and lift points)

TIP:

The Claw Room™ uses premium Apres Gel-X tips.
Already sized to Apres? You’re instantly compatible.

3. The Glue Isn’t Right

Thin glue = thin commitment.

How to Fix It:

  • Use thick, salon-quality press-on glue

  • Thin layer on your natural nail + a dot inside the press-on

  • Press firmly 15–20 seconds

4. Your Nails Are Too Oily

Hydrated queen? Love that for you.
Terrible for press-on retention.

How to Fix It:

  • Alcohol wipe

  • Light buff

  • Always use dehydrator

  • Primer if needed

5. Water Exposure Too Soon

If you shower, wash dishes, or wash your hands right after application…
yeah they’re gonna go for a swim.

How to Fix It:

  • Avoid water for 2–4 hours

  • Best hack: apply before bed

6. You’re Too Rough Too Soon

If you start deep-cleaning, cooking, or reorganizing your whole life right after applying… your claws are fighting for theirs.

How to Fix It:

  • Let the glue cure properly

  • Use gloves for cleaning

  • Treat them like fresh acrylics for the first hour

7. Your Natural Nails Are Too Short (or too long)

Super short nails = no support
Super long nails = bendy base

How to Fix It:

  • Keep nails short–medium

  • Make sure there’s a flat surface for glue to bond

The Claw Room™ Method = 2+ Weeks of Wear

When you follow this routine, your claws will not budge.
Press-ons don’t have to be “pop off in three days” nails — not here.
They’re durable, reusable, salon-level sets designed to outlast your schedule AND your drama.
